Office 2019 vs Office 2024: is the upgrade worth it?
Two generations of new features separate Office 2019 and Office 2024. And one difference outweighs all of them: one no longer gets security updates, the other will until 2029.
The differences
- Support: Office 2019 support ended on 14 October 2025. Office 2024 is supported until 9 October 2029.
- Excel 2024 has the functions that arrived with Office 2021 — XLOOKUP, LET and dynamic arrays — plus 14 new text and array functions, the IMAGE function and self-updating charts.
- PowerPoint 2024 lets you present with your live camera feed on the slide, record video and add captions to audio and video.
- Publisher comes with Office 2019 but not with Office 2024: Microsoft retires it in October 2026.
- Compatibility: Office 2019 runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft lists Office 2024 as supported on Windows 11 and the LTSC editions of Windows 10, not on Windows 10 Home or Pro.
- Office 2024 saves in OpenDocument 1.4 by default.

Which one is right for you?
On Windows 11, Office 2024: it is the difference between an Office with no security updates and one supported until 2029. Office 2019 only makes sense if you need Publisher or work on a Windows 10 PC that cannot upgrade.
